Thankful Thursday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year! We traveled to spend time with our daughter, SIL, and of course, the grandson for Christmas. The bad thing about this is that we miss out spending Christmas with our son and his wife. They spent it at her parent's house, though, so they weren't alone. We had a blessed time with Jen and her family. Love seeing the joy and thrill in Jackson's eyes when he opens gifts and then sees what Santa brought him. He received a new bike and helmet for Christmas. He was thrilled. That is what he asked Santa for, so he was so excited! He rode it several times that day, and Jen said they had to ride bikes yesterday while we were on our way home. It is a cool Hot Wheels bike and his helmet has rubber things that look like a spiked mo-hawk. He looks "cool" in it. I am thankful for the time we got to spend with them and for a safe trip home.

I am sew ready to get back to sewing! I am thankful that I have the time to sew and quilt. I either never had the money, or I didn't have the time to sew until the past two years. I am thankful that I have been blessed to donate several quilts, to make a few smaller quilts for children and Jackson. The biggest quilt I have made so far is the Desert Mirage that is presently on our bed. I have been blessed to make my first Crazy Shortcut quilt for a client/friend. I am to the putting it together stage with sashing and then bind it. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to make her two crazy quilt pillows using all kinds of embellishments. I am excited about trying my hand with these. I will add to me project goals page within the next week or so of what I want to accomplish in 2013 with the Lord's help.

-I am thankful for my husband and what he means to me. I am thankful for the time we spend together and that God has blessed us with over 34 years of marriage.
-I am thankful for my children and their spouses. I am thankful for their love.
-I am thankful for my grandson. He is our only grandchild at the moment. He is so precious to DH and I. We love him so much!!! He is a blessing.
-I am thankful for my extended families. My DH has two brothers and their families. Love them! I am have thankful for my sister and two brothers and their families. None of them will know how much they mean to me.
- I am thankful for the two aunts and uncle I have left on my side of the family. They are all elderly and not in good health. Love them so much and pray for them often.
- I am thankful for all the cousins I have. We don't get together as much as we did as kids, but I love them so much!
- I am thankful for our puppies. I've missed them while we were gone for Christmas and ready to go pick them up!
- I am thankful for a roof over my head and a car to drive. I am thankful for food on my table. Even if I fuss about washing dishes, I am thankful for those, too. LOL

I think I will stop for now. I pray you will take the time to count your blessings. We are approaching a new year in just a few days. Let us put God first this year and watch His blessings unfold.

God Bless you,
Teresa

What Does Christmas Mean to You?

As we approach Christmas, I was sitting here wondering what Christmas means to me. I thought I would ask you this question to.

Christmas is:
1. The birth of my Lord and Savior
2. family- husband, children, children's spouses, and especially my grandson. I also include my siblings and extended family.
3. Friends- I have made many new friends in the past couple of years since I started quilting. Friends on Facebook are included here. I have met a few of them in person, but have become as close as I can to others online.
4. Kindness- some people are more kind and loving during this time of the year than any other time. That is sad, but it is true.
5. Love- for all
6. Food- my hubby's wonderful ham he cooks each year; carrot cake with pineapple, nuts, and raisins added in that our daughter wonderfully makes; pickle/olive plate; pecan pies. Those are our mainstays on Christmas Eve.

These are a few that came to mind as I contemplated what Christmas means. Until this year, Christmas also meant stress about getting the family gifts. What to get, money to get them something, how much to get, making sure we spent about the same amount on each child, etc. But this year, we got the k ids the same thing for the couples together. We were able to get our grandson something he really wants, too. We haven't gotten each other something, but you know what? It is okay. We both need a pair of shoes, so we will probably get those for ourselves. Our money is tighter this year than it ever has been, but God has blessed us so much in the past year that the "not much money" is okay with me. I am learning a lot about myself and our lives together during these times. We lean on the Lord and each other. We are blessed to be celebrating our 36th Christmas together.

Now, it is your turn. Tell me what Christmas means to you. Is it giving and getting presents? Is it celebrating the birth of Jesus?  What does it mean to YOU?

Newtown, Connecticut

My heart is broken tonight over the senseless killing of twenty precious children and the adults.I do not understand why anyone would do this. I believe God is big enough that we can ask WHY? I know. I've been taught not to ask God Why? But, I believe His heart is broken, too. In respect and condolence, this page will go silent for the weekend. Please pray for these precious families.

I Can't Believe It is Almost Christmas!

Good morning! At least it is good, because I am alive and up. I am praying you are all well and ready for Christmas!!! We are getting close. It will be here before we know it, then be gone again in a flash. Have you ever realized how hyped we get and work so hard getting just the right present for everyone, and then Christmas comes and is gone so fast? I have. It just doesn't seem right. LOL  I have always loved the Christmas season; lights, decorations, laughter, family time. But I love especially the reason for the season; my Lord and Savior. It is His birthday, and we should remember that. Our commercialism of Christmas has gone way overboard. They put out Christmas decorations earlier and earlier every year. One season runs into another so fast it makes my head spin. I wish you all the merriest of Christmases. Please spend time with family and enjoy the time you spend. Love your family. Before you know it someone will be gone.

Our son and daughter at his wedding this past spring.

Our awesome grandson
Since our children grew up, Christmas has never been the same. Then we were blessed with a grandson. Christmas was magical again. The main problem with it now is that he and his mama and daddy live 500 miles away from us. :-( It hurts his Papa and Mimi's feelings that we don't get to be with him any more than we do, but we understand why they had to move. Jobs are extremely important, you know. :-D

We love our children and their spouses and our grandson very much. God has richly blessed DH and me with them.

My December goals are to continue working on the crazy quilt I'm making for a sweet lady in Virginia. Now she has hired me to make two crazy embellished sofa pillows for her. Did I say that I've never done this type of craft before? Well, I haven't, but I have been buying some fabric pieces to make them out of and some wonderful things to with which to embellish them. I have also been blessed with friends who have given/donated lace, buttons and other doo dads to use. I am excited about trying this! I sure pray they turn out pretty.

I have finished a couple extra gifts, and still want to make a couple of things for Jackson. I turned in the black and white rag quilt to the person who will be donating them to the Ogden House in Guntersville, AL. I sure hope some teen enjoys it.

Well, I need your prayers. Some how I hurt my back last night changing clothes out of the washer to the dryer. I hurt all night and am hurting really bad right now. I know there isn't anything the doctor can do, so I guess I will take pain medicine and try to deal with it. Please say a prayer for me.

We also have some friends from church we attended in Dothan, whose baby was born with her intestines up in her lung cavity through a hole in her diaphragm. She has been in Children's Hospital in Birmingham ever since she was born a few weeks ago. She has been on a heart/lung machine, and has a lot of other issues. The doctor's told them on Tuesday to prepare to take her off the machine, that she has been on there longer than is safe. Please pray for a miracle to take place in this baby's life. If not, comfort for the family. Thank you in advance.

Have a blessed remainder of the week and weekend.

Friday!!!

Hello!!! I pray you are all doing well. I've had several facebook friends who have been in and out of the hospital, so I am praying for them. I have a special FB and personal friend who has surgery this morning. I am praying all goes well with her. Please keep her in your prayers. She has been very sick for several week, so we expect this surgery to take care of the problem.

I saw this morning that I had a comment from someone in Bucharest!!! I am excited!!! I know I haven't been blogging much lately, and I apologize for that. I had family here last week and before that cleaning house and preparing for their arrival. Then, I had to rest up after hosting Thanksgiving here and all the standing I did during that time. It hurts me, as you who have been following my blog, and/or know me, to stand on my feet much. With RA and fibromyalgia, I am hurting somewhere all the time, but if I do much, I pay for it for several days. Anyway, off of that subject, I am considering having a giveaway soon. But, one thing has to happen before I do. I have to reach 50 followers!!! I know there are people out there who read my blog, but are not followers. When I get to fifty, I will gift some lucky person with a couple of fat quarters!!!! Who will the lucky person be?

I have also been busy making a Crazy Shortcut Quilts quilt for a lady in Virginia. I am to the point of quilting each square with decorative stitches. She is loving it from afar, so I pray she loves it when she gets it. :0) She has also commissioned two sofa pillows that are really embellished for her sofa. To be honest, I have NEVER made these before. I have started collecting lace, and other trinkets to put on them, but I am trying to learn how to do these. I want to do a really great job on them, so keep your fingers crossed. I even have a couple of people sending me things that they have leftover from their projects. I am so excited!!!! I don't know how to embroidery by hand, but I'm reading and watching videos on the Internet trying to learn as much as I can. My sewing machine has embroidery type stitches on it, too, so I will be using it to help. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have a few more pictures that I can show you of the progress on the crazy quilt.

Items collecting for pillows. Yellow fabric is binding for quilt.

I wish you all a great day. Be creative! Make someone happy. Share a smile!

Thursday's Work in Progress (for me)

I know that Wednesday's are normally works in progress days, but I couldn't get this posted, so I am trying to show you a few pics of the crazy quilt I am working on. I am now to the part where I can start putting the blocks together to quilt using decorative stitching. This quilt out of Marguerita McManus's Crazy Shortcut Quilts book. I am enjoying the process, but I think I might have liked it with smaller squares. I don't know, though. It has been fun. I did not realize that I would get this far as fast as I did. I sure hope the quilting part goes this :-) I know the person for whom I'm making this is excited! I may not have done one of these if she had not hired me to do so. I probably would not have the confidence to stretch my skills. Now to show you some pictures:

So, what do you think?

Have a Blessed Day!

Good Thursday morning!

I pray that all is well with you, my friends and family. I am sitting in my recliner at the moment thinking about what has happened this week. We woke up Wednesday morning with the same president we have had for the past four years. I don't like this idea, but as a Christian all I can do is pray and get the Word out to others. I want to make a difference. One woman was the instigator in having prayer taken out of our schools (legally). I believe that one person can still make a difference. But, it is discouraging when one does all he/she can to make sure he/she votes, then it seems to not do any good. Some stood in line for hours to vote. You may not feel like your vote did not make a difference. Let me be the one to tell you that it did. Our president would have won by a bigger margin than he did if you and I had not cast our vote.

I thank God that He is the one who comforts me in times of trouble. He is the one I can turn to when everything seems to go wrong. If anything this election has brought my heart closer to God. I know He is the one I have to lean on. He is the one who makes a difference. As my daughter wrote yesterday, God did NOT fall off the throne on Tuesday. He is still God. He will hold our hands through out the next four years. But, people, I want to say this one thing: I may not agree with your opinions and you  may not agree with mine, but there is only one God who is still on the throne, and He knows what is going on and what the future holds. Hold on to God's unchanging hand. He is in control.

Now to what I am working on. I made the first cut on the crazy quilt squares, yesterday. Today I am going to sew these cuts back together and press the seams open. I am taking pictures as I go, so hopefully you will understand where I'm going with this. Above you can see the picture of the first cut. I now have them pinned together each with a different fabric. I will later upload pics of what some look like after being resewn. Hope Sally likes her quilt when it is finished. T

I really hope you have a wonderful creative day! May God richly bless you and yours.

"All We Can Do Is Pray"

I am so sorry that I have not blogged lately. I just haven't had much to say, but today, I would like to share with you a blog post that my daughter posted on her blog this morning. I could not have said it better. I asked for her permission to copy and paste it to my blog. You may not have the same beliefs I have. You may be excited about the election results for the president. But, I pray that no matter who you voted for, or what your belief's are, to read this with an open mind. I love you all, and pray that we can pray together for our families, our state, and our nation.

"All We Can Do Is Pray"

After last nights results I have seen a lot of this this morning. I was cooking breakfast thinking about the results and praying for guidance, peace, for my country. I kept thinking about the words that lot's of people were speaking... myself included.. "ALL we can do is pray". This sounds like a last resort for most of us. Or like we have given up and that's a lowly thing to do. We have no other options and praying is the last thing we can think of. Oh my...

I fully believe God spoke to my heart on those words this morning. Praying is not a light thing. Mountains are moved with prayer. Chains are broken and lives changed with prayer. Nations fall and battles are won with prayer. Nations rise and are blessed with communing with the Father. That is exactly what prayer is. We are talking to the Almighty God who has us in His hands. He has this under control and we get to call Him Father!

Lives are saved and miracles happen with prayer. Sons and daughters have come to know Him from hours and hours of fervent prayers by their mothers and fathers. Walls have come down due to prayer from believers. Jesus went and prayed while he was here on Earth to commune with His Father. Prayer changes things.

As we take on this next four years let us not forget our call to pray for our leaders and those in authority. No matter if we voted to put them there or not. God did not leave His throne yesterday. Everything happens for a reason, a purpose and a divine plan. Let us not grow weary and look at praying as "all we can do". I am speaking this to myself as well. I have been guilty of saying that. Let's look at praying to our Father as the powerful weapon that it is. We are so blessed that we can come to the throne room and present our petitions to God. Let us be grateful and praise God that we can come to Him and He hears us. Let's not forget these two verses:
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

And Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I'm praying for you my friends and for the wonderful country we are blessed to live in. I ask you do the same for me.

Happy Tuesday!

I pray you are having a good morning on this beautiful day. Of course, the sun may not be shining in your part of the world, but it is bright and beautiful here in Alabama. It is also cold. It was 44 when I looked at the thermometer when I got up this morning. I tried posting this on Sunday, but my Internet would not allow it to happen! I had wished a friend of mine on Facebook a happy birthday, but that was two days ago, so I will leave that off now. LOL

I  have several prayer requests this morning. Another friend of mine on Facebook has a granddaughter with a tumor on her leg. They are not sure, yet, whether is is cancer or not, but please pray that God heals her of this! She is only ten years old. I know a God who can take care of this problem without her having any surgery whatsoever! Also, a couple of the ladies' husbands are having health problems either with Alzheimer's, surgery, heart problems, etc. Please remember them all in your prayers this morning. I have a former student who is struggling taking care of her two little girls since her husband left her. Please remember her and the girls. My hubby started having back pain Sunday morning, and it is still hurting him. I would like for you to remember him, too. I hit the floor hard in my sewing room, yesterday, when my chair overturned with me while getting up to answer my cell phone. It was my sister calling, and I tried to get up to answer, but I hit the floor instead. I know, don't laugh too hard. I started paying for it last night, and today, the right side of my back is giving me fits. So, no Bama Belles sewing day for me. :( Bummer

Okay, projects I am working on include:
1. clipping the black and white rag quilt
2. getting fabric, etc. ready to make the crazy quilt
3. making a Secret Santa Sewn gift for my facebook group (done)
4. Making Christmas gifts for the grandson, daughter and daughter-in-law (if possible)
5. make myself a bears paw quilt using a variety of fabrics (scrappy)
6. finish quilting a Wrap Them in Love quilt
7. bind baby quilt that is quilted.(done)

I think that is enough to freak me out for now. LOL What are you working on? As you can see, I finished a couple of projects yesterday. I was so tired afterwards that I could hardly move. I know that isn't much, but with my health issues, I can't do a lot at a time.

Here are my recent purchases, but these are for the Crazy quilt I will be making for a Facebook friend.

What do you think? Aren't they gorgeous? I washed the ones on the ironing board. The blues ones tended to bleed pretty bad, so I am going to see how many 18 x 18" squares I can get out of the rest of it before I go to the blues. I don't want them bleeding onto the white sashing.

Well, I guess I will hush now. I wish you all a blessed, creative day!

Day 1

Day 2
Day 3/4 Front of quilt cotton
Day 3/4 Back of Quilt: Flannel and cotton
I post this as a work in progress because it still needs clipping, washing and a label. I hope someone cherishes this quilt.

Happy Sunday!

Good morning! Hope you have a wonderful Sunday. What is on your agenda today? Did you get much accomplished yesterday? I was able to cut out all the squares except for seven for a donation rag quilt. Here is the picture:

I think it is going to look great! At least I hope so. I pray that some child(teen) will enjoy this. I know I would have when I was a teenager. :-D

I will be working today on making my Secret Santa pal on Stitches From the Heart facebook group a gift where I can get it mailed by Nov. 1st. Have been mulling over a couple of projects to do. I will show you a picture after she receives it. Hope she will like what I make.

Well, I am not going to post much today since I need to be looking up some patterns, lol. I will love to hear what your plans for future projects are. Have a blessed day. I will leave you with my favorite Bible verse:

"Jer 29:11  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

I also love the NIV version of this verse. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Have a blessed day!

Saturday Morning Plans

Good Saturday Morning to everyone! I hope you are all well and being crafty or at least spending family time. I have just sat down from breakfast and washing dishes and sweeping the floors. I had to sit down to cool. Sweat is pouring off of me. That isn't unusual. That is why I love the cooler weather. Not only did I get this sweating from my dad, but some of the medicine I take causes excessive sweating. Boy do I sweat. Some women perspire, but honey, I sweat with a capital S. LOL So, before I get into my sewing room and continue cutting squares and quilting, I needed to cool down and do a blog post.

Do you realize how close Christmas is? It is getting here too fast for me! I have too much to do for it to get here this soon. What about you? Is it arriving at your house faster than you want it to, or have you already made or bought your gifts? I have a Secret Santa gift I need to get done today where I can get it in the mail. That is if I can figure out what I am going to make. Do you ever have that problem? Deciding on what you want to make someone? Especially someone you don't personally know? Well, I do. She loves country colors, so I am going with that. Now to someone I don't know, but making something for her? That is this king sized quilt I am making for a Facebook friend. It is my first try at a Crazy quilt, but thank the Lord it is quilt as you go, or QAYG. I went fabric shopping on Thursday and found some awesome fabric, but I need more. So, I will either return to Wilson's or go to Joann's and see what I can scatter throughout the quilt. I believe I will have good luck there, too. Here is a peek at the fabrics I've purchased so far:

I am so happy that she loves it! I feel I have plenty of green and rose, maybe a little more blue and butter yellow. I am getting excited about getting started on this, but I still need the backing and the few extra fat quarters. I may go to a quilt shop that I've heard has some pretty batik that is really wide. So, I am going to check that out. Otherwise, I will order what the lady found online. I just thought of a question to ask the author of the book Crazy Shortcut Quilts about the backing yardage. It doesn't seem to be enough.

If you look in the back left corner of the photo you will see the fabric for the project I will do before starting this quilt. It will be a rag quilt for a friend of mine, Gene Black, (his blog link is in my sidebar). He gathers donation quilts for a teenage house, so that is the fabric I will be using for that project. I'm really excited about that, too.

What do you have on your agenda for this weekend? Please take the time to stop by and tell me what you are working on. I love your comments!

Have a blessed day,]

10-11-12

Good Morning! I know, I know, I've been lazy about posting lately. I'm sorry. I've been busy working in my sewing room on Christmas log cabin quilt blocks, but I've put that away again for a little while. I have another donation quilt to make for the Ogden House in north Alabama. I have been wanting to do this for my friend, Gene Black, since I saw his first post last year. This year, with the help of Reba Bishop, another friend of mine who donated the fabric, I will be making a rag quilt for some teenager at the Ogden House. I sure hope he/she likes it. It is going to be black and white! I love these two colors together.

Reba and me when we met the other day

A baby quilt I've finished minus binding

Above you will see a baby panel I quilted for a friend of my son's. His baby was born in April, and I have been lax on getting it done. While talking to an old friend from my teen years, yesterday, I finished the quilting part. I was so excited!!! Now all I need to do is add the binding. That will be done today or tomorrow.

Next on my list of to-do's is a quilt that I've been hired to make by a lady in Virginia. It will be made using the techniques in Marguerita McManus's book Crazy Shortcut Quilts. I have never made one before, but I am excited about making this one. She has given me ideas of the colors she likes, and I get to choose along that line. I am thankful this is a quilt-as-you-go one because it is going to be huge! I will post pictures as I go, that is if you don't mind seeing the progress. LOL I am excited about doing this, but nervous, too. Keep me in your prayers.

Along with these two projects, I need to make Christmas gifts for my family, plus for the Secret Santa project on Stitches From the Heart on Facebook. Not quite sure what I am going to make, but I have several ideas in my head. It will be made from fabric I already have in my stash, more than likely. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hope you all have a blessed day. I have lots on my plate, but will try my best to keep up with this journal.

Breast Cancer Rag Quilt Finished and Sold!

As you can tell, the quilt is finished! I am very proud of how it turned out. Even proud of the back. I am also excited to inform you that the quilt has been purchased and the money donated to my daughter where she can donate it to Making Strides for breast cancer. I am so happy that someone loved it enough to want to get it as a gift for a friend. Thank you, Michelle! I will be shipping, the good Lord willing, today. I woke up sometime during the night with another headache. So, I pray I will get to feeling well enough to take it to the post office to send to the recipient. Thanks to all who donated fabric, batting, and encouragement while I was making this quilt.

Yesterday, I worked some on on log cabin blocks for a Christmas quilt. It will either be mine, or my daughter's. Depends on how it turns out. I have to do some house cleaning especially dusting before I do much more. LOL I have many projects in my mind I want to do. First comes some Christmas gifts. I have been commissioned to make a king sized quilt for a lady. I am waiting on the check from Paypal to arrive where I can start on my adventure to purchasing just the right fabric. I am getting so excited!

I have really been blessed this week. I thank God for His blessings. I want to continue to make quilts as a way to show His love to others.

Sincerely,
Teresa

Breast Cancer Rag Quilt for Donation

Hi! I am posting this today in effort to help my daughter raise money. She is involved with walking Making Strides for Breast Cancer. http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=47370&pg=personal&px=30006894

If you would like to purchase the rag quilt for a donation of $60, please contact me soon. I will see that the money gets to the right place. We really need to get this going, and I want to help her. I made this quilt for a raffle, or chance with donations to win the quilt, but it doesn't look like it is happening. So, I am offering you an opportunity to purchase this quilt for $60, which is not a lot, and I will donate the money to my daughters Making Strides page.  Please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you in advance.
